Prof Doyle’s academic career spans over 5 decades across these roles: Research Fellow at WITS (1969 – 1976), Lecturer / Professor at University of Natal (1976 – 2006), Head of School of Physics at University of Natal (1999-2005) and Research Associate at iThemba LABS (2007 – 2017). He sometimes worked as an external examiner for UCT and UW.
His research interest include: condensed matter physics, non-linear wave theory (computational), mixed media properties. He went on to solve the shape effect problem and contributed to an understanding of vortex dynamics in Type II superconductors and in non-linear wave theory.
Prof Doyle has supervised many postgraduates and has delivered lectures at several national and international research institutions.
